Board Orientation and Training

SC Charter Law requires all charter school governing board members attend board orientation within a year of being elected or appointed. The Public Charter School Alliance of South Carolina provides FREE board orientation that meets the state requirement to all public charter school board members as part of our mission. This training meets the requirements of the state mandates. During the orientation board members become familiar with topics concerning charter law and legal expectations, board structure and responsibilities, funding resources, student achievement, and school success.

CONFERENCE SESSION: If you are unable to make this webinar, we will also hold an afternoon session at the 16th Annual Conference in Columbia on Thursday, November 17th from 1:00 - 3:30pm.

This training satisfies the state law for governing board members to receive training each year. Please take some time prior to the on-line or in person orientation to read SC Charter Law, your bylaws and your own charter, if you haven't already done so.

 Board Election Services

The Alliance provides support services and technical assistance to members for their elections at reasonable rates. The Alliance takes care of everything from collecting applications to sending out e-ballots and tallying the results. Follow this link for further information.

Ready to kick your board training up a notch?

The Alliance offers Advanced Board Training which will work off the base you receive with online training and personalize an in-depth training session for your board.  We can customize the training to include components of the orientation requirements along with your boards prioties. Mary Carmichael, Executive Director, and Shaunette ParkerDirector of Admission and Strategic Coaching, will work with your board to set up some pre-work to assess particular needs, create an action plan which aligns with your mission, and deliver an Advanced Board Training session at your school.
