The South Carolina Association of Public Charter School!
SCAPCS provides technical assistance and resources relevant to the work of public charter schools. Through SCAPCS’ Strategic Plan, we are building the capacity and sustainability of SC’s public charter schools. We are focusing our efforts on proven best practices in collaboration with the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools.
Leading Change — Principals, Boards, & Community Leaders:
Highly skilled leadership in administration and governance is critical to the success of a public charter school and the learning curve is steep. SCAPCS is focused on developing innovative and skilled public charter school leaders. SCAPCS continues to be the leader in providing comprehensive board training and governance support. SCAPCS member schools benefit from discounted rates on advanced technical assistance where leadership teams work with schools on specific issues, such as strategic planning, financial management, student achievement, or board development. SCAPCS members have access to webinars and online “members only” resources. SCAPCS is developing a “board bank” of highly skilled community members interested in serving on public charter school boards who will be committed to the mission and long term sustainability of the school.
Advocacy in Action:
Demonstrating accountability and increasing student achievement are the best advocacy tools for charter schools when working to create real change in Columbia and Washington, DC. In the true spirit of “lead by example,” SCAPCS is working with SC’s public charter schools to research, demonstrate, and replicate global best practices that show real potential to advance student achievement in South Carolina. SCAPCS’ public outreach initiatives through media and community events will further illustrate how public charter schools are accountable, are advancing student achievement, and are an investment in SC’s financial future. We plan to further engage charter school families this year in a push for equitable funding for ALL public school students. SCAPCS plays a proactive role in influencing South Carolina Department of Education and State Board of Education decision making. In addition, SCAPCS partners with the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools to help influence Federal policies.
Commitment to Your Bottom Line:
As budgets continue to tighten, boards must allocate resources in an effective manner aligned with their mission. SCAPCS offers its members savings through cooperative purchasing agreements with vendors who recognize the collective buying power of SCAPCS’ membership. The new online vendor guide connects members with a wide variety of suppliers that are dedicated to serving the South Carolina charter school market. SCAPCS continues to expand the resources and supports available to SC’s public charter schools through membership in the association. Member schools also benefit from grant funding updates and prospect research. SCAPCS also provides free job postings on the web and on CERRA.
